The critics have praised Vladimir Valjarevic for his "caressing legato," "silk-on-velvet seductiveness" (Fanfare Magazine) and "beautiful lyricism and a wide variety of tones and colorings, perceptively applied with care" (All Music Guide). As a pianist, he feels equally comfortable interpreting scores of chamber music and solo literature. Committed to exploration of contemporary repertoire, he worked under direction of various composers including Lukas Foss, Dick Hyman, James Cohn, David Tcimpidis, Benjamin Lees, Michael Cohen, Aleksandra Vrebalov, Keith Fitch, Ellen Lindquist. In addition, he performed in European premiere of Cage's dance drama "Four Walls" in Berlin and Hamburg and world premieres of Vrebalov's and Hyman's compositions with Knoxville Symphony at Southwest Virginia Festival for the Arts.


In recent years, Vladimir Valjarevic has performed at Manchester Music Festival and Middlebury College in Vermont, "ProMozart" Society in Atlanta, GA, DePaul University in Chicago, IL, Southwest Virginia Festival for the Arts, as well as on concert series of Siena College in Albany, NY, "An Die Musik LIVE" in Baltimore, MD, French and Swiss Embassies and American University in Washington, D.C., and in New York at Bargemusic, "Concerts at One" at Trinity Church, Polish Consulate, American Society for Jewish Music, "The Saint Andrew Music Society" at Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church, Donnell Library, "Music Under Construction," and "Meet the Virtuoso" at the 92nd Street Y. New York City's audiences have also heard him at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, Merkin Hall, Steinway Hall, Yamaha Salon, The United Nations, Goethe Institute, The Liederkranz, French Consulate and New School's Tishman Auditorium, among others. His overseas concert activity took him to Japan, Switzerland, England, Germany, France, Italy, The Netherlands, Bulgaria, and former Yugoslavia. In the United States, Vladimir Valjarevic appeared with Youngstown and Knoxville Symphonies, Manhattan Chamber Orchestra,  and in Serbia with Camerata Academica and Nish Chamber Orchestra. He has often collaborated with musicologist Nancy Reich in her highly acclaimed lectures on Clara Schumann, as well as with AmorArtis Chamber Orchestra and The Boys Choir of Harlem.


Born in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Vladimir Valjarevic came to New York City on a scholarship from Mannes College of Music, where he earned Bachelor's and Master's degrees as a recipient of Marian Marcus Wahl Performance Award. His principal teachers were Pavlina Dokovska and Vladimir Feltsman. Prior to studying at Mannes, he completed his initial music education at the Music School in Tuzla (Bosnia and Herzegovina) as a student of Planinka Jurisic-Atic and attended Academy of Arts in Novi Sad and Conservatory of Music in Belgrade (both in Serbia) in the class of Arbo Valdma. As a winner of Fulbright Scholarship and Swiss Arts Government Grant, he studied at Geneva Conservatory in Switzerland and earned Professional Studies Certificate under the tutelage of Pascal Devoyon.  While in Geneva, he received chamber music instruction from Jean Jacques Balet and clavichord lessons from Nicole Hostettler at Centre de Musique Ancienne. He participated in Master Classes with Jerome Lowenthal, Philippe Bianconi, Gaby Casadesus, Lilian Kallir, Eteri Andjaparidze, Lydia Kouteva, and in festivals such as IMS Prussia Cove in England, American Conservatory in Fontainebleau, France, Apeldoorn Festival in The Netherlands, International Festival-Institute at Round Top in Texas, International Keyboard Institute and Beethoven Institute in New York, Kneisel Hall in Maine (as a recipient of Artur Balsam Scholarship), European Piano Teachers Association (EPTA) in Rovigno, Croatia, and Ohrid Summer, Macedonia.  Currently, Vladimir Valjarevic is a doctoral candidate at Rutgers-The State University of New Jersey, where he receives Saldarini and Frazier-Durham Awards and studies with Susan Starr.  As a soloist and chamber musician, he won numerous prizes at National Competitions in former Yugoslavia as well as at "Citta di Stresa" and "Citta di Marsala" International Competitions for the Young in Italy. He recorded for Yugoslav Radio and Television and Voice of America. His latest CD, "Tribute to Faure," is recorded for Labor Records.


Vladimir Valjarevic teaches piano at Mannes Preparatory and Extension divisions. He is the teaching assistant of Pavlina Dokovska in the College division.
